Excellent family owned heritage hotel. Superb food. Great service in a very nice area of mid Wales. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Excellent gym, spa & heated pool.

I was told by a friend the hotel is dog friendly, so I visited for dinner in the bar with my pooch. Unfortunately dogs are not allowed in any of the dining areas, so we had to go elsewhere.

compleat and utter let down ...my wife has been very ill for a long time so i thought i would take her for a special meal so we went to the metropole my wife had filet steake wich she could not eat she brought it home but now its in the bin i had vegan chilli which i did not eat and very exspensive .once apon a time it was a top class establishment but now it is just annouther hotell in a chain of more hotels snce it has been taken over by its present owners .i wont be going there agajn and would not recomend it

Rooms are a bit dated, but also quirky, you never know what you're going to get! Room in the tower anyone? Great breakfast, handy location for North Wales meets South Wales conferences/meetings. Rooms need more power points/USB sockets to truly make it suitable for business though. Staff are great and helpful. Will stay again.

I've stayed at this hotel so many times for work purposes. It's very convenient in the heart of Wales.
However, the rooms are dated and really need upgrading. The decor is tired: peeling wallpaper, damaged fittings, no plugs near the bed, showers with mediocre pressure and don't go hot enough for my liking, very thin toilet paper and a TV that keeps switching itself off.
Also, the room temperature is hard to regulate: my room is like a sauna whereas a colleague's room is freezing!
Nevertheless the bed is comfy and I slept well, and it's handy to have a desk in the room to work at.
The staff are friendly and attentive. The food at breakfast and in the bar in the evening is good.

Everything was just "ok" considering the cost. It looked to be a luxurious spa getaway but the hotel is heavily outdated. Upholstery is aged and stained. The breakfast is more like a budget hotel. We could hear the conversations in the rooms next to us.
The pool and spa was enjoyable, however, the sauna was out of service for the week.

Came for lunch. The hotel is lovely, historic, fanstastic indoor spaces, couches, tables. Lovely street side conservatory. Always had a mediocre experience with food here and I’ve not my lip, but I can’t let today’s meal go without feedback. Fish and chips, soggy batter, greyish, uninspiring cod, not flaky, lacking texture and flavour. Chips stale, limp. Burger, not quality patties, tasted mass manufactured made from frozen, bun tough as old boots. The heavy bite needed for the bun meant that the contents just spilled. £2.35 for small glass of soda water and a dash of lime. I’d accept that if the food was great, but this was a bad experience. Please please do better. Do justice to this great building and environment.

Good hotel and location
Been there a number of times and always been very happy before
This time room was not really warm enough even though it was not especially cold
Did mention it but think the problem was too small a radiator for a large room

On the main through road in Llandrindod Wells. I only went to the Christmas fair there so can’t comment on rooms and service. Very spacious enough to enter in a wheelchair lovely bar that served mulled wine everything decorated very festive and the fair was very successful and can certainly recommend it for coming years. Lots of stalls with very enthusiastic hobbyist who made amazing things. Shane I didn’t have more money to spend on the day!

I attended a conference at the hotel and a formal dinner the food was first class. My thoughts on this venue are that although in good order and Great food it was expensive.

We like the Metropole , the staff are great and the food very nice. We would probably give a 5 except that the TV kept going off - poor signal. The toilet for room 232 is tucked in a recess in the bathroom whereby your knees touch the radiator which is positioned opposite it. The room is a bit claustrophobic because of the small window. The view from the window - not nice looking out onto some ducting. We think this is the same room we stayed in last time, or, if not, very similar. Will be requesting different room next time if offered this one.

Hotel is out dated and even with the heating turned off on the thermostat in my room, the heating was on full and was boiling even with windows open, making extremely uncomfortable. The ‘spa’ was more like a leisure centre due to the amount of children playing in there. And the food was appalling, dinner was hardly touched by both myself and my partner and it was a meal that you probably wouldn’t even serve in prison. Would not recommend.

We went for afternoon tea. We paid (in advance) for three but they were only expecting two. The cakes are frozen (they defrost them over night) so they were unable to able to provide us with a third set. They did manage a third set of sandwiches and a scone. It didn’t feel very special. It wasn’t all set up in advance or anything, and they didn’t check back that everything was ok.
